Green roof at Ruislip Tube Station

Green Roof for London Underground

London Underground were concerned about the drainage in an operational station and decided to consider environmentaly friendly options to resolve it.  After discussion they engaged green roof consultancy to deliver the final design solution with the University of East London to undertake the monitoring of the end results.

The Urban Greening Company were thrilled to be asked to carry out the installation of this important project which was at Ruislip Gardens.

Retro-fitting an operational railway meant we had to follow the rigorous assurance and safety procedures of London Underground. We needed to undertake the works without any interruption of the underground service.

We also had support from The Greater London Authority (GLA) sustainable Drainage scheme. You can read a description of the project on their site here:

On our return to the site we were greeted by a blossoming green roof. A success that will lead onto bigger projects in the future.
