Living Roof Installs Roundup for June 2024
We have had a busy June already and there is still a week to go. The green roof maintenance team has been keeping busy during this sunny spell with lots of roofs in need of inspections and some attention. And the installation team have been installing both green and blue roofs.
The first green roofs were on an apartment block development in London which required a number of green living roof sections, all of which will help the project meet the required sustainability targets as well as providing real world benefits including better thermal insulation, roof integrity and biodiversity.
Next it was on to a new school block in Caterham, London, where a large new school building was being treated to a Blue storm roof. Blue roofs are designed to hold high volumes of stormwater during severe rain events and reduce the flow rate from the roof to acceptable levels for the drainage system to handle effectively. This is done via a layered system which includes a filter membrane and an attenuating cell system (visible in the image right). To top it all off is a Biodiverse wildflower seeded green roof which will look stunning when fully established.
After these projects were completed the team travelled down to the stunning village of Polzeath on the North coast of Cornwall where they installed a beautiful green living Sedum roof, sympathetic to the surroundings and with views out over the bay. Sedum vegetation is able to thrive exceptionally well under different weather conditions and is also a good fit for this coastal climate.
All the installations already look amazing and will only improve as they establish and provide much needed biodiversity, roof protection and storm water mitigation. We look forward to checking back on them in the future.
