800sqm Green Roof Headland Hotel Cornwall

800sqm of Green Roof in Cornwall/

Our team were asked to prep and install 800sqm of green roof on the Headland Hotel and Spa’s brand new spa facility on the North Cornwall coast just up the road from Newquay.

We specified and installed four green roofs in total of varying sizes on this magnificent new spa facility right on the tip of the headland with stunning views across the sea and Cornish landscape.

To say we had to battle through the weather would be an understatement. The roof seemed to have its own micro climate so logistics were extremely difficult.

Working with Western Flat Roofing for the project we were grateful we had the help of their robust crane to lift the materials into position.

130 tons of substrate waiting to be lifted to the roof

Substrate ready to be spread across the roof

A very large amount of substrate was used due to us needing to reach a depth of 200ml across the roofs.

Each layer being installed

Such a high depth of growing medium was used due to the roofs exposed position right on the headland.

Completed rotunda drop down

We had to weigh down every layer until ready to unload the substrate due to the extreme wind conditions. Getting materials to these back roofs was a tall order. A hardy coastal seed mix has been added to this 800sqm green roof area that should thrive in the climate.

(Thanks to Western Flat Roofing for the main top image which shows the roof at a later more established date.)
