It’s Time for Green Roofs Say Experts

time for green roofs
In a recent article for The Guardian, Delaney Nolan reports that not only is it time for green roofs and solar chimneys, but that we already have the technology to “build cooler homes for an increasingly hotter world”.
As even air conditioning struggles to cool people’s environments in the US, home builders and planning departments are looking at alternative ways to beat the heat. With soaring costs and power consumption in many parts of the world many experts feel the time has come to insist on a new era of efficient, environmentaly friendly construction standards.
Green roofs, living walls and other urban greening tecniques have been used since ancient times to help insulate buildings.  These features can reduce indoor temperatures by up to 7°F (3.8°C) and provide additional benefits like rainwater absorption and reduced urban heat. Cities like New York and Chicago are encouraging these practices through tax incentives, and even large corporations like Walmart are adopting green roofs for their premises.
Experts believe that governments, especially in the west, should be creating more incentives and putting pressure on builders to adopt these practises, especially as there is every reason to do it and no reasons not to!
