Green Roofs Over Wandsworth
When it comes to climate change Wandsworth Council means business. The council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has since set targets to be carbon neutral as an organisation by 2030 and net zero as a borough by 2043. A huge array of initiatives are also being rolled out from decarbonising buildings and vehicles to implementing sustainable transport and protecting and enhancing biodiversity and nature in the borough.
They also held a “Citizen’s Assembly” recently to encourage residents to help join the battle at a grass roots level (apologies for the pun) and so we were delighted to help one family do just that this week as we installed delightful green roof on a house in the borough.
The tired and bare flat lantern roof was the perfect canvas for some biodiversity in keeping with the council’s ambitious plans. The Sedum turf has started to establish already and looks great, turning this plain piece of urban construction into another biodiverse and fab looking pollution filter that will benefit both the homeowners and the environment.
