Devon Medical HQ Gets 600m2 Green Roof
BOWA MEDICAL UK, a leading medical technology manufacturer, has marked a significant milestone in the construction of its new headquarters in Kingskerswell, Devon – with the addition of a stunning sedum roof. The new site which includes a new manufacturing plant with cutting-edge research and office facilities, will also house a modern commercial space enabling the team to work collaboratively under one (green!) roof.
The new high-tech building incorporates a large area of green roof as part of its sustainable design, and the TUGC team have been on site making this a reality. There is also plans for landscaping and tree planting, including the installation of “Devon banks” and hedgerows to provide new wildlife habitats around the site.
Although it has only just been laid the new large sedum roof is already looking stunning. In addition to softening the visual impact of the new facility the green roof will also encourage increased biodiversity and contribute to the company’s broader environmental commitment. There are also plans to introduce solar panels making it a biosolar roof.
BOWA MEDICAL UK Company Director Chris Graham commented:
“Our commitment to the environment and the local community has been at the forefront of our plans, and we are delighted to continue to contribute to the region while developing a new home for our company sustainably and responsibly”.
There are many benefits of green living roofs, including:
- Stormwater Management: Green roofs help absorb rainwater, reducing runoff and mitigating flooding.
- Thermal Insulation: They provide good insulation, helping to reduce energy costs for heating and cooling.
- Biodiversity: They can support a wide variety of plant species, contributing to urban biodiversity.
- Air Quality: The plants can help filter pollutants from the air, particularly in urban environments.
- Aesthetic Appeal: They can enhance the visual appeal of buildings and urbanised areas.
