PWC green roof regeneration London

Regenerating a green roof at PWC

We were tasked with Regenerating a green roof at PWC‘s prestigeous London strategy and Business Management offices. The company asked us to submit our cost proposal to revive the existing green roof areas which had been installed some 5 years ago and had not taken well in some areas and needed some desperate maintenance and care in others.

We proposed the introduction of additional substrate to boost nutrient levels, increase moisture retention, and support diverse vegetation like wildflowers. Supplementing the planting with the introduction of plug plants and bulbs, as well as the introduction of habitat incidentals including bee hotels and log piles to encourage the insects and to foster greater biodiversity. All our proposals were happily agreed and we set to work.

Also within the scheme we removed an area of ‘green’ roof planting over the entrance canopy where the aspect meant there was insufficient light for the vegetation to survive. We substituted the canopy with natural cobble stones which blended with the modern tones of the building whilst maintaing a natural looking element.

Maintaining these roofs annually through enhancement of seeds and plantings will improve the roofs year on year and we look forward to seeing how they thrive over the next few years
